Metabolic syndrome and Diabetes Mellitus type II in women
Abstract
Metabolic syndrome or cardiovascular – renal – metabolic syndrome, si a set of risk that increase the probability of developing cardiovascular diseases and represent 15% of morbidity in adults. It tends to be more prevalent in women after menopause, due to the decrease in estrogen, which promotes abdominal obesity. Likewise, diabetes has a higher prevalence in women and a greater association with obesity. A review of the scientific literature was made between 2005 and 2025 in PubMed, Scopus an Scielo.
It was concluded that metabolic syndrome is an independent variable of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular death and death form other causes; especially in women. It is proposed to go beyond the body mass index to confirm excessive central adiposity. Specific strategies are required for early diagnosis of all components of the metabolic syndrome, to reduce long-term morbidity and mortality
