Abstract

This text is an approximation of the process of development of scientific journals in Colombia, in the last 20 years, based on international indexing. For the analysis of the process, the challenges and perspectives of scientific journals, we take SciELO as a reference, but Scopus and the Web of Science are also considered. The evolution of Scielo International, Scielo Colombia and the Journal of Public Health are examined, as a framework for the analysis of Publindex. The growth of Publindex-Colciencias and its subsequent decline are described, with the change to the Publindex-Scopus model. From 2017 to 2024 there is no evidence of the changes that should have taken place in scientific journals, which at the time justified adopting the Publindex-Scopus model. The need to strengthen the open access model and continue with the open science perspective is raised
