Challenges in consolidating journals as highimpact publications for knowledge dissemination

Abstract

Drawing from the experience of serving as Editor of the journal Investigación y Educación en Enfermería, this reflection addresses the contemporary challenges that journals face in establishing themselves as high-impact publications in knowledge dissemination. These challenges range from maintaining their status in the National Bibliographic Index Publindex, achieving indexation in high-profile bibliographic databases—such as Medline and PubMed Central—to being included in citation databases like Scimago Journal Rank and Journal Citation Reports. Finally, the discussion emphasizes the need to ensure editorial processes of excellence and to move beyond Open Access toward Open Science.
