Challenges in the indexing and visibility of "Avances in Enfermería" ("Advancements in Nursing")
Abstract
This presentation offers a reflection on the challenges faced by the journal Avances en Enfermería in terms of indexation and visibility. It begins with a general analysis of the landscape of Latin American scientific journals, addressing aspects such as open access, visibility, and inclusion in indexation systems. It then focuses on the Colombian context, specifically nursing journals. Various strategies implemented by the journal to improve its positioning are described, including the use of social media, participation in academic events, improvements in article presentation style, engagement in calls for papers, and the strengthening of the editorial team. Additionally, the process of inclusion in Indexing and Abstracting Systems (SIRes) is highlighted. In conclusion, the presentation emphasizes the importance of coordinating efforts on multiple fronts to enhance the quality, visibility, and sustainability of scientific publications, calling for institutional recognition and support for editorial teams, and underscoring the importance of strengthening regional SIRes given their relevance for addressing issues specific to Latin American societies.
