García Márquez’s magical realism throbs in Latin America

Abstract

Magical realism is a literary style that defined an era in Latin America, producing outstanding authors of universal renown. This article aims to define the term magical realism and its characteristics. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses this literary style in several works to express his thoughts about medical topics that are prevalent in his narratives. After introducing some of the style’s representatives in Latin America, as a tribute to our Nobel Prize winner in literature, this article presents some of his works that exemplify magical realism to determine its relationship with health issues in his narrative.
