Abstract

Eighteen cases of acute renal failure ocurring in 422 patients with P. Falciparum malaria, were studied.

There is a relationship between the renal failure and the severity of the clinical picture, particularly withparasitemia, hyperbilirubinemia and hyponatremia.

Further to the measures used in controlling acute renal failure, the treatment trends specifically towards a rapid diminishing of the parasitemia with chemiotherapy or even with exsanguino transfusion.

All the 18 patients recovered after an average of 8. 6 days, from the onset of acute renal failure, with a concomitant improvement of the other symptoms of malaria.
