Abstract

We present the case of a patient with multiple episodes of weakness secondary to severe hypokalemia, associated with metabolic alkalosis. We discuss the approach that led to the diagnosis of Gitelman syndrome (GS) in this case, which is considered to be an orphan disease in Colombia. In presenting this case, we address clinical aspects of GS like the diagnostic criteria, treatment, phenotypic presentation and prognosis
