Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome in a woman with systemic lupus erythematosus
Abstract
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a clinical-radiological disorder which tends to have acute neurological symptoms, and which is diagnosed using the patient’s clinical presentation and magnetic resonance findings. We present the case of a 23-year-old patient who developed this syndrome within the context of a systemic lupus erythematosus relapse, with bilateral tonic-clonic seizures. This disease was identified in the approach to the patient (although it was a diagnostic challenge), which allowed appropriate and prompt treatment to be provided, decreasing the possibility of sequelae and unnecessary medical treatment
