Sjögren syndrome overlapping with granulomatosis with polyangiitis
A complex relationship
Abstract
Vasculitides associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies occur due to blood vessel inflammation, endothelial injury and tissue damage leading to organ dysfunction. The overlap with other systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases is uncommon. We present the case of a patient with ocular, upper respiratory, pulmonary and kidney abnormalities as a result of a small vessel vasculitis caused by antiproteinase-3 antibodies, who was also diagnosed with Sjögren syndrome, a coexistence which is especially rare
